Russian icon of the Apostle Saint Bartholomew, XIX century, height – 53 cm.

The apostle Saint Bartholomew is one of the twelve disciples of Jesus Christ. Evangelists do not report anything about Bartholomew apart from the other apostles. Filled with the Holy Spirit on the fiftieth day of the Passover, he, like the other disciples of Jesus Christ, became a preacher of the Word of God. Information about his apostolic ministry remained in the apocryphal texts: he turned the Gentiles in Asia, Mesopotamia, Parthia (Persia) and India to Christ.
