The icon of the apostle James depicts one of the twelve disciples of the Savior. The apostle James was the brother of the Evangelist and apostle Matthew. He was also a tax collector but then believed in Christ. The apostle James after the Ascension of Jesus Christ began to read the sermons in Judea, and then, together with the apostle Andrew, went to Edessa. There, they were divided, and the apostle James went to preach to South Palestine, to Eleutferopol and Gaza. The apostle was crucified on the cross in the city of Ostrazin, when he was going to read the sermons in Egypt.
